For more years than I can remember, we have been asked over and over…”Do you do photograph families as well?” Our answer has always been a pretty emphatic no. Elizabeth and I have always been in agreement that we do what we love because it brings us the most enjoyment and we do our best work that way. Even when it means less money. Doing the typical family portraits simply never appealed to us. So much of what we see in children and family photography is boring. Cliche, old, the same ol’ same ol’, and we just didn’t want to take part in it.
We realized that we said the same thing about wedding photography for years until it dawned on us that we can do it our way. Pure storytelling, real and emotional. Without all of the silliness. Professionally and personally, it was one of the best decisions we ever made. So we revisited the family/children idea and realized again that we don’t need to follow the trends to do what we love. The concept of “A Day in The Life” appealed to us immediately. Instead of going to the park, having your family dress in blue jeans and white shirts and pretend like you are having fun for the camera, we would capture your family as they are. A day in your life. At your house. As it really happens. Messy and cute, the way kids are.
We couldn’t be more excited. Let me introduce Mandy and her kids. Enjoy!

Family Friday | A Random ( but not surprising) Moment For A Three-Year-Old

It is amazing what lengths a three-year-old will go to for the chance to play with bubbles in the sink. We notice that he was being quiet for a few minutes, so we knew something had to be up. Knowing he couldn’t reach the sink by conventional methods, he took a different route. He pushed the stool over and covered the interior of the sink with hand soap prior to emptying the water like a fire hydrant and balancing himself with one toe! This was how we found him when we entered the bathroom.

Introducing….Ellie!

We wanted to introcude Ellie! Ellie is the daughter of our wonderful friends Kim and Ken, who came to visit us in Pittsburgh from Washington D.C. at the beginning of October. While Elizabeth was shooting these adorable photographs of Ellie, Ken and I were taking in the Steelers game against the Ravens at Heinz Field that afternoon. We are so happy and thrilled for Kim and Ken, their daughter is absolutely adorable and she is such a wonderful little girl. We can’t wait to watch her grow up!
