Becca & Dan | St. Margaret of Scotland Parish | The Pennsylvanian

Becca and Dan were married at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Green Tree and the reception at The Pennsylvanian in Downtown Pittsburgh. Becca and Dan are high school sweethearts who’s path together has taken them through Penn State University and now in the Philadelphia area, where they now reside. The connection with Penn State was obvious from my initial meeting with Becca’s mom, who laughed that certain family members were none too thrilled with the wedding being on the same date of the Penn State- Alabama football game in State College! I hung out with Dan and the guys while they emptied a few beer bottles while laughing so hard telling childhood stories. Meanwhile, Becca and the girls had laugh out loud moments as well, like two of the bridemaids getting the heels of their shoes getting caught in a floor vent! The ceremony was awesome, and the looks they kept giving each other during the ceremony were priceless! The rain that was expected held off long enough for the Becca and Dan to spend a few minutes on the North Side, where they were the local celebrities to the tons of Pitt fans leaving the game offering their congratulations. Their reception, at The Pennsylvanian, was insanely fun. The parent dances were wonderfully emotional and the party rocked on the entire night! The Pennsylvanian is a remarkable location for a wedding reception and makes for an unreal backdrop for all of the dancing. Becca and Dan honeymooned at the same location that Elizabeth and I did more than nine years ago and we are so happy for the both of them! Congratulations again Becca and Dan, we wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Joyce & Phil | Peek N’ Peak Resort | Clymer, New York

Joyce and Phil…Joyce and Phil….where do I start with these two? You know it’s going to be a great working relationship when your first phone conversation is filled with laughter and jokes like we’d known each other for years. Joyce had a perfect vision of what she was looking for immediately, which was a wedding day void of all of the cliches often associated with wedding photography. Needless to say, we connected instantly. As you will see, Joyce and Phil are very expressive and so loving towards each other and their family and friends. I traveled up to Peek N’ Peak Resort & Spa to meet the Joyce and the girls and was greeted with an immediate warmth from everyone that really elevates what I can do photographically. I then met Phil and the guys for the end of their golf round and some drinks and they were just as welcoming! The ceremony was at a different level. As one of Joyce’s bridesmaids commented later, “You are not supposed to have so much fun at your wedding ceremony!” We did a quick portrait session (it was really just a time to be silly for a few minutes, Joyce and Phil weren’t interested in any traditional wedding portraiture) and it was off to their reception. As expected, the reception was ridiculous fun. Phil had his dance moves down but then again it seemed like everyone did. The reception ended with no one wanting to leave and an encore by their band! It was such a great time and I was so happy to be a part of it! Congratulations Joyce and Phil, we are so happy for you both!!!

Family Friday – The Reprimand

As parents, we’d love to say that everything is rainbows and unicorns and we all behave perfectly all of the time. There are times, believe it or not, that a three year old will act like, well, a three year old. Which means throwing the occasional tantrum. Or spitting their food out. Maybe it means crying for a reason that no one can figure out. On this day, taking the Long Island Railroad after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York (see our last Family Friday), this little cuddly monster decided to throw one of his toys. Elizabeth, in a split second, squeezed his little cheeks to let him know that wasn’t allowed, and I grabbed on of my favorite photographs of our youngest son!

Family Friday | Macy’s Thanskgiving Day Parade | New York City

We spent Thanksgiving with our family in New York and took the kids to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for the first time! I’m not sure what was more of a thrill for them though, the parade or riding the subway, which is always their favorite. We had an awesome time and stuffed ourselves later that evening with great friends and family out on Long Island. Here are a few highlights from the day!

The first glimpse of Kermit The Frog popping out from behind the high rise on 80th street near Central Park was one of their favorite moments.

Snoopy, another favorite, wowed the chilly and cramped crowd, some of which waited for hours to keep their spot near the parade route. We were not some of those that waited that long!

Now, I know Turkey and Stuffing are traditional cuisine for Thanksgiving Day, but a hot dog and pretzel can make any grumpy 3-year-old happy.

Elizabeth and I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you are all able to be with family to share the joy of the holiday. We are extremely thankful for everyone that we have in our lives and how fortunate we are for what we have been given.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.

Sneak Preview | Aubrey & Scott | Gateway Clipper | The LeMont

Aubrey and Scott could not have chosen a more perfect afternoon to have a wedding on The Gateway Clipper! I don’t believe Aubrey stopped smiling all day, and she and Matt partied the night away at The LeMont and DJ Bill Bara was a huge reason for that. He absolutely rocked the house straight through to the last song! Check back Wednesday for their full post!

A Story Within A Story | Help Me!

Practical jokes at weddings are not uncommon, especially with the guys. It is generally done either before the ceremony or during the reception when most of the anxiety and stress has faded. Erica & Kyle’s groomsmen had more of a flair for the dramatic! They plotted and eventually taped “Help Me” to the bottom of Kyle’s shoes, hoping that at some point they would be visible during the ceremony. Fast forward to the moment they knelt down next to each other at the altar. While they each paid attention to the words the pastor was speaking, a small bit of laughter was heard at the front of the church. After a few moments of giggling and whispering, the laughter grew throughout the church.
Erica quickly noticed that something was going on and turned towards her bridemaids, who at the same time were staring at the heels of Kyle’s shoes. Putting it together quickly, Erica leaned back to read the words written on her new husband’s shoes and Kyle sheepishly laughed and looked forward in embarrassment!

Family Friday | Sleeping Beauty

So this was Monday night, I had just finished an engagement portrait that evening and was watching the World Series on the couch. It was literally the bottom of ninth inning and the San Francisco Giants were one out away from winning the championship when Elizabeth told me that I needed to come upstairs immediately. I asked if it could wait until the game was over and she told me I needed to see this. The DVR was a life saver at that moment and I rushed upstairs to see what was so urgent. I’m really glad I did! He had been knocked out in this position and had not moved, even when we turned the light out. Luckily, he wasn’t sore or complaining of a bad back the next morning!
